Miles Joseph Devine, 60, passed away on Friday, March 20th, 2020 at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, Illinois, following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)/Lou Gehrig's disease. He leaves his partner of 34 years; Kathleen, his daughter; Kimberly, his three month old grandson; Tyson Miles Lee, born December, 2019, his mother; Marjorie Catherine, his brother; Daniel, his stepson; Mark Stephen Perkins, nieces and nephews; Keith, Shannon, Maureen, Jimmy, Michael, Kaitlyn, great nieces and nephews, cousin Oliver and close friends; Daniel Bridges and Cindy Miller. Miles was born on August 24th, 1959 in Evanston, Illinois and grew up on the north side of Chicago. His parents were John J. Devine, former Cook County circuit court judge, and presently Marjorie C. Cosgrove, a Chicago Public School educator.
He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Laura Ann.
In 1986, Miles met the love of his life, Kathleen (Kathy) at their job, the Office of the Attorney General of Illinois.
They married, and have been together ever since.
Miles graduated from Hardey Preparatory for Boys and DeVry University.
He was an avid White Sox and Bears fan, loved good Chinese and Mexican food and lit up every room he entered.
He loved all things UPS. From the hoodies and tees down to the keychains, he bought it all from the UPS catalog. Proud to be a Teamster, he would shout, "Fed Ex sucks!" when their trucks rolled by. At the UPS Northbrook, Illinois location for two decades, you would never fail each Friday to lug to work a 40-lb boombox, extension cords and a sack of his own CD mixes, carefully printing the title and artist on each CD jacket playing DJ for his coworkers, excitedly announcing, "They love my music!!" Kathy, tried broadening his musical horizons by playing and recording EDM every Friday and Saturday from 10 pm to 5 am. She was only partially successful, dealing with a full fledged die hard rock and roller.
Together they saw dozens of concerts, including the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Madonna, B-52's, ELO, UFO, Sisters of Mercy, The Cure and his second to last concert, Florence and the Machine at Northerly Island. They frequented the old Exit on North Avenue and shopped at the Alley. Miles loved going to Joe's Bar and watching the turtles race. He was loud. He was a true innocent. She loved when he was happy and hated it when he wasn't. He loved animals , watched nature programs and in younger days worked for Lincoln Park Zoo. He was a baseball cap, tee, jeans and Michael Jordan gym shoes guy. A big kid. He loved sweets to a fault, especially those made by Hostess. Often a bull in a china shop, he was also mischievous. He carried his father's judges card "accidentally " pulling it out of his wallet handing it to any police officer who should happen to stop him.
He had a fondness for beer and would reply, when admonished or scolded, "I'm Irish! What's your excuse?"
Together they brought the most beautiful, the bestest little girl ever, into this world, Kimberly Deanna Devine, of whom they were both so proud.
Miles Joseph Devine, know you were, are and always will be so dearly loved and cherished, sweet one.
One last thing you should know about Miles. He would always say, "Aliens are real!"
Go to God Miles. You are in our hearts forever Miles.
