Yolanda Mendez de Anda, lovingly known as "Big Bird", age 78, of Chicago, Illinois, via Mexico, passed away on November 26, 2024, after suffering a stroke that she was unable to recover from.
Yolanda was born on September 16, 1946, to Maria de Los Angeles and Heliodoro Mendez in Orizaba, Veracruz. She relocated to Mexico City where she met her future husband, Manuel E. de Anda.
She and her family moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1970, where she began to build her legacy. She was able to learn English and managed multiple jobs all while raising six children, in the inner city. Big Bird became an active member of her community, by giving grace and understanding to those that needed it most.
Yolanda went on to have six children: Elisa, Carlos, Enrique, Yolanda, Manuel, and Mark. She dedicated her life to her children and focused all of her resources and energy on providing the best possible life for them. She had an unmatched passion for education and conquered the task of teaching her children, grandchildren, and even some of her great-grandchildren math in spite of only having a sixth-grade education.
As time went on, Yolanda retired and enjoyed her friends' company, painting, and making arts and crafts to give to friends and family. Mom loved to create.
Yolanda was predeceased by Papa Yoyo (Dad), Mama Lita (Mom), Javier (Brother), and Hilda (Sister). She is survived by Sergio (Brother), Maria de Los Angeles (Sister), her children, Elisa (Luis) de Anda, Carlos de Anda, Enrique (Edith) de Anda, Yolanda (Tromaine) Langham, Manuel de Anda and Guadalupe Ortiz, Mark de Anda and Lucina Campos.
Grandkids, Carlos (Chinito) de Anda, Brian de Anda, Racheal de Anda, Melissa de Anda, David de Anda, Jessica de Anda, Manuel (Manny) de Anda, Luis de Anda, Christina de Anda, Jeremy de Anda, Cyrus de Anda, Miles de Anda, Victoria de Anda, Jacqueline de Anda, Natalia Langham, Samantha de Anda, Joshua Langham, Mark de Anda, Jr., Kaleb Langham, Daniel de Anda, Amanda Ortiz, Michael Zaucedo, Troy Langham, Jr., and Deonna Langham.
